My Sister and Me: Fragmented but Whole
Medium Oil on canvas (black and white)
Siblings are reflections of one another, but they’re also uniquely their own people. In this black-and-white piece, I wanted to explore that duality—the shared identity that comes from growing up together and the individuality that emerges as we carve out our own paths.
The fragmented sections—eyes, lips, and hands—represent how identity is never a single, cohesive thing. We’re pieces of our upbringing, our family, and our own experiences. The overlapping portraits of my sister and me show how our lives intertwine, creating a bond that’s both complex and unbreakable. The grayscale palette adds a sense of timelessness, reminding me that no matter how we grow or change, we’ll always carry each other with us.
